Powder Bed Fusion
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)

Stratasys SAF™ Powder Bed Fusion Printing

Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) technology allows for the creation of a diverse range of powdered materials.

In the Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) process, a laser selectively fuses polymer particles together, constructing each layer of the part. This method excels in producing highly accurate parts with intricate geometries. As the powder itself provides support during printing, there is no need for additional support material.

In High-Speed Sintering (HSS), a fine layer of loose powder is applied onto a build platform. An inkjet print head then moves across the platform, depositing an infrared-absorbing fluid onto the desired areas where sintering is required. The build area is subsequently illuminated with infrared light, which fuses the powder under the fluid into a solid layer.

The FDM technology implemented by Prototyping Solutions utilizes a thermoplastic filament that is extruded and strategically deposited layer by layer, resulting in the desired object’s completion. This innovative approach offers a range of advantages, including user-friendliness, cleanliness, and suitability for office environments.

Prototyping Solutions employs production-grade materials that exhibit exceptional mechanical and environmental stability. These materials are extensively tested and widely adopted in conventional manufacturing techniques like injection molding, ensuring reliability and consistency in 3D printing with FDM technology.

The integration of Prototyping Solutions’ FDM technology empowers the production of intricate geometries and parts featuring internal cavities. These capabilities are particularly valuable in applications that demand precise tolerances, durability, and stability across diverse environments. The FDM thermoplastics employed by Prototyping Solutions possess the necessary properties to meet these requirements effectively.

Formlabs Selective Laser Singering (SLS)

Fuse Series: The First Benchtop Industrial SLS 3D Printers

Just like with other 3D printing technologies like FDM or SLA, lower-cost, compact SLS systems have recently started to emerge on the market, but initially, these solutions came with considerable trade-offs, including lower part quality and complex, manual workflows resulting from the lack of post-processing solutions, which limited their use in industrial and production settings.

The Formlabs Fuse 1 bridged that gap and created its own category as the first benchtop industrial SLS 3D printer that offered high quality, compact footprint, and a complete, simplified workflow at a fraction of the cost of traditional industrial SLS systems. Now, the next generation Fuse 1+ 30W extends that category with a more powerful laser, improved powder handling features, and new material capabilities for industrial quality parts and high throughput.
