Prototyping Solutions Adds Desktop Metal Line of 3D Printers

By Prototyping Solutions on June 16, 2017

As 3D printing has grown in popularity, printing with metal materials has lagged behind due to high cost and technological limitations on speed that made 3D metal printing impractical for both prototyping and production.

Until now.

Desktop Metal has taken the next step in the 3D printing revolution with the introduction of their Studio and Production Models of metal 3D printers. These printers cover the full range of needs from rapid prototyping and design to full-scale industrial production.

Desktop Metal Studio

The Desktop Metal Studio model desktop 3D prototyping with metal materials to the offices of engineers and product designers for the first time. The Studio is fast, cost-effective, safe and precise. So how did they do it?

Safe

The Desktop Metal Studio Edition delivers 3D metal printing without the need for lasers, powders, and expensive third-party equipment. This means that you can truly run the Studio on a desktop in your office rather than in a secure, controlled environment. The Studio edition accomplishes this through a process that is similar to the FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) process that has become the most common 3D printing technology with other materials due to its safety.

Fast and Easy to Use

This desktop-based solution eliminates a number of steps from the prototyping process. You can produce functional 3d prototypes without having to leave your office. Simple materials changes, hand removal of supports, and intuitive web-based software will enable your team to easily integrate the Studio into your prototyping workflow.

Cost-Effective

The Desktop Metal Studio edition operates at 1/10 of the cost of comparable laser-based 3D metal printers. This brings production cost down to the point where metal 3D printing is an option for engineering teams. In addition to the affordable price, Desktop Metal is offering both purchase and subscription programs so that your firm can select the pricing model that works best for your organization. Contact your Sales rep today to find out more about these purchase programs.

Precise

The Desktop Metal Studio edition could be affordable, fast, and safe, but if it produced an inferior product, none of that would matter. Precision and quality are the final pieces that make this a truly revolutionary metal 3D printer for office and engineering environments. The Studio achieves greater than 98% density through bulk sintering. Not only does this deliver quality that is similar to wrought alloys, it gives you the option to customize part density while producing near-net-shape parts for truly functional prototypes.

Desktop Metal Production

The Desktop Metal Production System is bringing these technological innovations and many more to industrial production settings in 2018. The Production Series is 100x faster than laser-based 3D metal printers, and it delivers this at 1/20th of the cost. This brings 3D metal printing from extremely low-run applications to a level where even the common parts can be produced at a lower cost-per-part than through traditional manufacturing.
